Deer Park School received a letter on 13 November 2017 from Rt Hon Nick Gibb MP, Minister of State for School Standards, congratulating Mrs Colenso, her staff and pupils on the school’s outstanding achievement in the 2017 phonics screening check.
In the Phonics check, 95% of pupils at Deer Park reached or exceeded the pass mark, making Deer Park in the top 8% of all primary schools in the country. This a huge achievement for the school, providing pupils with the key skills to develop a love of learning in the future.
Nick went on to thank all teachers in their contribution to this vital area of a child’s early education and we are delighted that the school has had the recognition they deserve for this excellent achievement.
Alison Colenso, Head teacher at Deer Park said: “I am absolutely delighted with this recognition of our school’s attainment in phonics. Our pupils and staff work tremendously hard and with unfaltering levels of determination and resilience in all aspects of the curriculum, so this really is very well deserved.”
