BPET Debate Competition 2025

On 18 June, Kilburn Grange School hosted the annual BPET Debate Competition, facilitated by Noisy Classroom. A group of 20 pupils took part in this years competition, each ready to showcase their skills in the art of debate.

The competition featured two rounds: one debate that pupils had prepared in advance, and another where teams were given just 30 minutes to craft their arguments on a new topic. The pupils were very invested in the topics and came up with creative arguments and rebuttals.

Each performance was judged on the following skills:

  • Rebuttal: respectful and polite listening followed by constructive counter argument
  • Confidence: expressed in their tone of voice and body language in delivery
  • Explanation: the reasoning about their point of view on the topic at hand.

Throughout the day, all pupils displayed impressive critical thinking, eloquence, and a command of formal debating language.

A huge congratulations to all participating pupils especially those experiencing their first debating competition. Special recognition goes to Deer Park School's team “Heart of It”, the school has now extended their winning streak to an incredible four consecutive years. One of the pupils from the winning team shared, “I was a little bit nervous at first, but I felt confident that we did well. When he announced us as the winners, I was so happy!”

Many thanks to Kilburn Grange School for hosting this years competition, and special thanks to the Noisy Classroom representative their valuable support throughout the day.
