Apprenticeships

We are committed to supporting the professional growth of both new and existing staff through high-quality, work-based learning and professional development. Apprenticeships provide an excellent opportunity to gain valuable skills, knowledge and nationally recognised qualifications while earning a salary. Opportunities are available across a wide range of roles, from Level 2 (GCSE equivalent) through to Level 7 (Master's level).

We benefit from the Growth and Skills Levy (previously the Apprenticeship Levy), enabling us to invest in the development of our workforce through funded apprenticeship programmes. Employers with an annual pay bill of over £3 million contribute 0.5% of their payroll towards the levy, which can be used to fund approved apprenticeship training.

From 1 August 2026, significant changes to the levy come into effect:
  • The Apprenticeship Levy became the Growth and Skills Levy.
  • New levy funds will expire after 12 months if they are not used (previously 24 months).
  • The 10% government top-up to levy funds will cease.
  • Employers will continue to receive levy funds based on their England payroll, making it even more important to maximise the use of available funding.
We therefore encourage all BPET staff to explore the apprenticeship opportunities available through our approved training partners, including LMP Education, BeReady, Best Practice Network, and Bellevue Education. 

Level 7 Apprenticeships - Important update

The Government has changed the funding rules for Level 7 (Master's level) apprenticeships to focus investment on younger learners. 

From 1 January 2026, government funding is only available for learners who are:

  • Aged 16-21 at the start of their apprenticeship; or
  • Under 25 if they are a care leaver or have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Staff who started a Level 7 apprenticeship before 1 January 2026 will continue to receive funding through to completion. Staff aged 22 and over starting after this date are no longer eligible for government-funded Level 7 apprenticeships and would require alternative funding arrangements.
We encourage colleagues to discuss apprenticeship opportunities with their line manager to identify the most suitable programme for their career development.

  • Teacher Apprenticeship (for aspiring teachers with an undergraduate degree)
  •  Teaching Assistant Apprenticeship
  • Teaching Assistant SEND Pathway Apprenticeship
  • Sports Coach Apprenticeship
  • Operations / Departmental Manager Apprenticeship
  • Accountancy and Tax Apprenticeship
  • Senior Leader Apprenticeship (subject to current government funding eligibility)
  • Cyber Security Apprenticeship
  • Coaching Professional Apprenticeship
  • Early Years Educator Apprenticeship

  • Level 3 Teaching Assistant Standard
  • Level 4 Learning and Skills Mentor Standard (ideal for teachers in years 2–6 of their career seeking subject leadership responsibilities or experienced teachers wanting to build advanced mentoring skills).
