Great British Energy

Kilburn Grange School and Halley House School have been selected to take part in the government’s Great British Energy initiative, a programme currently supporting just 11 primary schools across Britain in their transition to green energy.

Through this initiative, schools can receive investment for rooftop solar panels, helping reduce energy consumption and reinvest savings into education. At Halley House School and Kilburn Grange School, projected savings of £46,800 and £33,500 respectively over the lifetime of their solar panels will be directed toward educational resources. This investment strengthens the schools’ and BPET’s commitment to environmental responsibility, while freeing up resources to better the learning experience for our pupils.

This marks the latest step in our wider sustainability efforts. Earlier this year, Electric Vehicle (EV) charging points were installed at four of our primary schools: Rivermead Primary School and Watling Primary School each installed two charging points, while Evendons Primary School and Whiteknights Primary School installed four. Also at Whiteknights Primary School, newly installed solar panels have already reduced electricity bills by around 25% each month, enabling the complete removal of gas appliances from the new kitchen, which now runs entirely on electricity.

By reducing our carbon footprint and lowering energy bills, we’re creating more sustainable environments where our pupils can thrive. We’re excited to continue leading the way in sustainable education.

Mark Greatrex, BPET Chief Executive, said: “We are delighted to have Kilburn Grange School and Halley House School enrolled in the Great British Energy’s solar programme in addition to other Bellevue Place Education Trust schools. Last year, all our schools collectively achieved an amazing 9.4% reduction in energy consumption, which meant that our trust has been able to save £299,000 in energy bills, which we can invest back into the education provision for our pupils.”
