Our School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme offers a hands-on route into teaching. You’ll be based in the classroom from day one, gaining practical experience while working towards your qualification.
We offer our School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme in partnership with Teach First. The BPET approach is to train teachers as individuals, just like we teach our pupils: individualised learning is at the heart of what we do.

Programme overview
This one-year postgraduate programme, rated Outstanding by Ofsted, combines classroom-based training, self-directed study, and one-to-one support. The final qualification is awarded by Sheffield Hallam University, it offers hands-on experience from day one: you’ll work as part of the teaching staff in a local school, interact daily with pupils, and gain subject-specific training alongside a deep understanding of effective teaching methods. Throughout the programme, you’ll be guided by an experienced mentor, ensuring you develop the skills to make a real difference in your community.

Locations
We have teamed up with the Campfire Education Trust and the Avanti Schools Trust to offer you the opportunity to train in one of 20 schools across the Midlands and South East of England, either:
- one of the 12 BPET schools across London and Berkshire
- one of the six Campfire Education Trust schools across West Northants, Milton Keynes and Buckinghamshire
- one of the Avanti Trust schools in Stanmore or Essex.

After you're qualified:
- you’ll start on a qualified teacher’s starting salary of at least £40,317 (inner London), £37,870 (outer London) and £32,916 (rest of the country)
- you'll gain qualified teacher status (QTS) and Post Graduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) awarded by Sheffield Hallam University
- you'll have the opportunity to work in a BPET school, and further your career in years to come.

How to apply
Eligibility
To apply you need:
- An undergraduate degree or equivalent
- To demonstrate sufficient knowledge in the subject you are applying to teach, either through your degree qualification, your A Levels or relevant experience
- Grade 4 (C) or above in English and Maths GCSEs, or equivalent qualification, and Grade 4 (C) or above in Science GCSE in order to teach primary.

Fees and financial support
You will be registered as a full-time student throughout the programme so will have access to student benefits and discounts, as well as a student loan to cover your fees. Depending on your subject and qualifications, you may also be eligible for a bursary or grant to support you throughout your training.
